W1+ — Standard Bend with a Softer response

The Genesis W1+ is a reinforced wooden-core stick for players who want a soft, forgiving response with Mercian's conventional Standard Bend.

Why choose the W1+?

Choose this stick when touch, manageability and developing core skills are the priority, with extra reinforcement around the wooden core rather than a move to a stiff composite feel.

Standard Bend / shape

Standard Bend is Mercian's straighter, conventional route for core skills and a natural starting place for many younger players. The W1+ uses a 22 mm Standard Bend.

Softer response

The W1+ sits in Mercian's Softer response band. Its wooden core is reinforced with fibreglass and carbon, retaining a forgiving wood-led feel while adding structural reinforcement.

Construction, touch and control

  • Wooden core: provides the soft, familiar base feel.
  • Fibreglass and carbon reinforcement: adds structural support around the core.
  • M-Gel in the handle: helps absorb vibration.

These features help explain the finished stick. They do not replace the more important bend and response decisions.

When another current option may suit better

Compare W1 for a simpler wood-and-fibreglass construction or FG100 for a full-fibreglass composite route. All sit in the Softer response band.

Sizes

The current product is configured in 34", 35" and 36.5". Live availability is shown above.

OUTDOOR STICK GUIDANCE

Check the player requirement before you buy.

Outdoor choice starts with fit and the hockey you actually play. Bend, shape and construction should explain a useful difference, not create a good-better-best ladder.

Is the length workable? What hockey must it support? Would a specialist shape help the way you play? Which response can the player use?

Position, player level and carbon percentage can help describe a stick, but none of them automatically decides what suits you.
