INDOOR HOCKEY STICK CHOICE

How do I choose the right indoor hockey stick?

Start with the length you need. Then choose between Mercian’s Low and Ultimate indoor shapes, and use response / feel to distinguish the four current sticks.

There are four current indoor sticks to compare. This guide helps you find the length, shape and feel that suit you.

This guide is for indoor hockey sticks.Looking for an outdoor or goalkeeper stick? Each has its own guide.
01

FIT

Start with the length you need

CF5i is currently offered in 32", 34", 35", 36.5" and 37.5". CF25i, CKF75i and CKF90i are currently offered in 36.5" and 37.5".

If you need below 36.5"CF5i is the only current Mercian indoor player stick offered in those shorter lengths. That is simply a question of what sizes are available, not an age or ability judgement.

RESPONSE / FEEL

Then choose the response you can use

The current range runs from softer through to direct / powerful. These bands describe how the stick responds; they do not rank the player.

MAKE THE CHOICE

Choose the stick that suits the player

Once length, shape and feel are clear, price and availability can help you choose between suitable options. They should not change which sticks suit the player.

Good fitThe length, shape and feel suit what the player needs.
Another suitable optionIf another current stick also works, explain the shape or response trade-off.
Need more informationIf one unanswered question could change the choice, resolve it first.
No suitable current Mercian stickIf no current indoor stick suits the player, consider another option rather than choosing one just because it is available or cheaper.
This is not a progression ladder.Low and Ultimate are shapes. Softer through Direct / Powerful describes response. A larger carbon number is not automatically the better indoor choice.
